Short Synopsis
This piece is for two performers who represent the two deities Dionysus and Apollo, i.e. the soprano and flute parts (Dionysus) as well as the tenor and guitar parts (Apollo) should be performed or sung by the same person. The two performers can be of different or the same gender, and if possible, they should wear togas for the performance.
Apollo should play precisely and flawlessly, always maintaining an aura of the deepest pride—contrasting with Dionysus, who appears more dance-like and improvisational, drinking a glass of wine (at least 0.2 liters) in one go at every fermata. At the end of the piece, the two performers should kiss passionately and then recite the following text:
Apollo:
"Blessed people of the Hellenes! How great must Dionysus be among you, if the Delian god requires such magic to heal your dithyrambic madness!"
Dionysus:
"But say this too, you wondrous stranger: How much this people had to suffer in order to become so beautiful! Now, follow me to tragedy and sacrifice with me in the temple both deities!"
