Exposition

Hello and welcome to my website.

As one who has lived throughout the world, studied the ever-changing evolution of art and philosophy in our own time as well as in the past, and observed the seemingly boundless complexity and infinite diversity of human thought and creativity I am drawn to genealogical world-views, which synthesize ideologies from numerous different cultural traditions and structures of human thought to form new ideals and values which stand apart from their points of origin. Yet all the while retain a deep interconnectedness to the world today as well as their place in time.

Consequently I am skeptical of attempts to establish ultimate truths or absolute imperatives within the world of aesthetics, i.e. dogmas pertaining to style, technique, etc. This skepticism has compelled me to reject many norms within the various milieus of contemporary musical consumption and to search for and experiment with diverse forms of structure and expression, ranging from the frigidity of serial techniques to the chaotic rapture of Dionysian improvisations.

Concurrently I remain wary of the withdrawn character of much contemporary art, which all to often recedes from the world, in so doing facilitating the continued existence of the misanthropic status-quos and power structures of our time, e.g. totalitarianism / authoritarianism, and stand firm in my belief that the artists of today must retain their critical capacities and be bold enough to imagine a better world despite the uncertainties that accompany any divisive thought or action.

It is towards this end that I pledge my life and work and look forward to a time when the contemporary role of the artist in society will no longer be necessary because the creative spirit of humanity will have permeated every aspect of life. Yet this will only occur in that time and place where the existence of aesthetics has finally and once and for all become the aesthetics of existence.

I thank you very much for your interest in my life and work and look forward to meeting you in person.

Sincerely,

Sean Robert Silva
