Short Synopsis
Elegy is a piece for solo guitar that follows the tradition of the ancient elegiac poem or song, imaginatively evoking characteristics of a deceased person or a lost past. In this way, both personal and purely aesthetic, in this case musical, memories are awakened and consoled. However, the melancholic character of the elegy does not sound in order to confirm the wisdom the Silenus. Rather, as in ancient Greek tragedy, it aims to enable self-emancipation from intellectual conflicts through catharsis, and ultimately to affirm life in all its diverse manifestations.
The piece is deliberately presented without a dedication, so that the interpretation by the audience is not shaped by associations outside of their personal experiences. The individuality of the audience members, as well as their openness to engage with the piece on a content level, is thus placed at the forefront.
