Short Synopsis

My second composition for solo guitar arose from a need I felt at the time to bring a coherent structure into my work. My solution was to adapt one of the most prominent as well as tradition laden forms in western music, namely the sonata or as it is called in German speaking countries the Sonatenhauptsatz form, to my own advantage without being overburdened by encumbering historical intricacies.

The central thematic idea, which determined many aspects of the piece’s musical development, i.e. key, tempo, character, etc., was improvised on a sunny San Francisco afternoon. As the title suggest, it is my hope that all who hear it learn to search out and embrace the beauty of life especially in those moments when it seems bleak and hopeless.
